Conclusion

In toitality, the Mason Mascots empahsize the several phsaes of the university's life, recognizing the role different characters play in the creation of student spaces, excitment, and interaction. While little information remains on many of Mason's previous mascots, their legacy can not be understated in the creation of the Patriot and the excellence of Mason.

While exploring the history of Mason’s mascots, you might have noticed many common themes. For example, most mascots had attire based on the colonial outfits that the university's namesake, George Mason, would wear. Many of the older mascots were meant to be depictions of George Mason or a colonial soldier, and even the newer mascots, like Gunston, wore a powdered wig.
Despite the common themes many mascots shared, Mason seemed to have trouble deciding which mascot fit them best. Most mascots were only around for a couple of years before they retired them. This is partly because George Mason is a fairly new university that is still changing and growing. A mascot that may have represented Mason in the 1960s, when it was a small branch from the University of Virginia, would not properly represent the large, diverse university George Mason has become.
Despite the constant change, John Victor has consistently brought life to George Mason’s mascots throughout his years at George Mason University. He was the main person who wore the mascot’s outfits from when it was just a papier-mache mask to when it was a green, fuzzy monster. He was the one who put on the suit and hyped up the fans at basketball games, and many students wrote about how much they loved the mascot's fun and exciting personality in the Broadside newspaper. It is only right for us to give him an honorable mention, since a mascot is nothing without the person who wears it.
