Is Mason Haunted?

From dorm rooms built on supposed burial grounds to library spirits that still roam late at night, these stories reflect more than just spooky encounters–they reveal a forgotten part of Mason’s identity. Our interactive map brings these ghost tales to life, anchoring each one to its location and context. Through interviews, historical documents, and personal accounts, we aim to trace the origins, evolution, and persistence of these legends.

This project not only explores whether Mason is haunted, but also why these stories matter. By preserving them, we give voice to a part of campus history often overlooked, helping us better understand the importance of Folklore at George Mason University.
