One of the first instances of activism at George Mason was when over 600 student, staff, and faculty turned in a scroll of signatures to petition to not have classes to partake in local efforts against the Vietnam war.
Throughout the country, many cities and universities were having Black Lives Matter protests, mainly vocalizing on how police brutality against Black people was running rampant. George Mason University students followed suit and held peaceful protests outside the Johnson Center.
Similar to the Vietnam protests, students and other supporters signed this digital petition to remove Brett Kavanaugh from teaching during Summer at the Scalia Law school, amid sexual assault allegations. This petition was made by the Mason 4 Survivors group, which is a student led advocacy group for sexual assault survivors. While there seemed to be no physical protests at Mason, this gathered over 15,000 signatures.
