Conclusion
This project shows how George Mason grew from a small college into a big and respected university. Each event helped shape what the school is today.
-
1957: George Mason started as part of the University of Virginia, with only 17 students in Bailey’s Crossroads.
-
1964: The school moved to Fairfax, where it had more space to grow.
-
2022: A new campus called Mason Square opened in Arlington. It focuses on research, technology, and new ideas.
These events are shown in the earlier pages of this project.
I decided to focus on the 1972 independence and the 1979 law school because I think these were the most interesting and important parts of the story. I gave each of them their own page.
The 1972 independence was a big moment. George Mason became its own university, not part of another school. This gave Mason the power to choose its own classes, leaders, and future. People celebrated at Harris Theatre to mark this special day.
The 1979 law school was also a big step. It helped George Mason grow in professional education and brought the school closer to Washington, D.C. This made the school more well-known and brought in great teachers and students.
To me, these two events helped Mason grow the most and become the strong university it is today.
