Title

Early Years and the Beginnings of Diversity Awareness

Description

George Mason University (GMU) was founded in 1949, but its early years were marked by a predominantly white student body, with little attention paid to diversity and inclusion. The university did not actively recruit students of color, and most policies focused on expanding academic programs rather than diversity. However, national movements such as the Civil Rights Movement and the growing awareness of educational inequality slowly started influencing higher education institutions, including GMU.
