<text>Despite their loss to the eventual national champion Florida Gators in the 2006 Final Four, George Mason University reaped significant benefits from their historic run. The Patriots' Cinderella story brought national attention, leading to a surge in applications and donations. The university sold over 25,000 Final Four t-shirts, capitalizing on the excitement and pride surrounding the team’s success.

The tournament run also had a financial impact on the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). For every game a team from the conference competed in, including Mason’s incredible journey, the CAA saw an additional $164,000 in revenue. This not only helped raise the profile of George Mason but also benefited the entire conference, further establishing the importance of March Madness as both a sporting and financial event.</text>
