              <text>The Confederate practice with Union prisoners was to separate the officers from the enlisted. The officers went to Libby Prison in Richmond, while the non-commissioned officers and enlisted personnel initially went to Belle Isle in the James River. On August 27, 1864, the Confederate Provost Marshal on Richmond’s Belle Island recorded 1,745 Army of the Potomac prisoners captured at Ream’s Station and one Army of the James prisoner, Private Solomon Crist. </text>
