He was one of eleven men from Marietta who all enlisted on the same day and marched 60 miles to the militia’s rendezvous point. The battalion was part of a statewide mobilization of militia in response to the Confederate Army’s invasion of Pennsylvania. Solomon served for ninety days until October 3rd, 1863.
