There is also a reflective fountain that honors Roger Wilkin, a former civil rights leader and professor at the university. Roger Wilkins played a huge role in providing the students at George Mason with an education in History and Culture, as well as providing a perspective on the enslaved people of George Mason. The design gives a physical presence to the previously hidden voices of more than 100 men, women, and children that Mason enslaved at his plantation, Gunston Hall. Roger Wilkins unfortunately passed away on March 26, 2017, but he will always be remembered as a pivotal figure at our university and for the voice he provided to those who were once silenced. </text>
