A 1971 report pointed out the problem, pushing the school to take action. Mason created the Office of Minority Recruitment and brought in its first African American admissions officer in 1974 to help recruit more diverse students. The group of 10 were seen holding signs such as those stating "God Hates You" and "American is Doomed". The group was met with a counter protest hosted by the University's Pride Alliance and the Driving Equality Project. The event raised over $580 for LGBTQ+ resources and the WBC group left 10 minutes early from their scheduled protest time.
