This opinion piece emerged as the author beleived this decision to be unjust after the BOV had previosuly rejected the hiring of an LGBTQ+ councilor that would have only cost the University $15,000. The BOV claimed there was not a "demonstrated need" for the councilor, but the author of the opinion piece argued that GMU had not embraced its NCAA and CAA sports, so the designation of $50,000 dollars to a club sport did not appear to be a "demonstrated need" either. Title A name given to the resource Abortion Protestors at Mason Met with Counter Protests Description An account of the resource Protestors from Life and Liberty Ministries came to Mason to advocate against abortion by standing behind signs dispalying graphic images of abortion and handing out literautre from their church to passing students. These protestors were met with counter protests from students such as the passing out of free condoms by representatives of the Health and Wellness Center. Other student's reported that the Pro-Life protestors had been harassing students such as calling them "immoral bastards" and saying they "probably had a number of diseases." When the Pro-Life protestors were asked about this, they denied the accusations. Some of the graves had names of women who had died as a result of legal abortions. An hour after the demonstration began the Women's coalition stood across from them with Pro-Choice signs such as "Keep abortion safe and legal." While no physical altercations emerged, students were seen hotly debated the issue from across the quad. The co-president of GMU United for Life stated their purpose was to educate women so they can make a decision prior to becoming pregnant. A student member of the National Organization for women stated that the Pro-Choice side does not want people to get abortions, but believe the choice is up to the woman.
